WORKING performed in the Lorzensaal in May of 1996 Co-directors: Hanns and Cari Zöllner Musical Director: Tim Socha.

WORKING was first performed in 1978 and received five Tony nominations. It developed out of the Pulitzer-prize winning book by Studs Terkel. The musical, like the book, is a documentary. A celebration of the ordinary jobs of ordinary people, the anonymous many whose daily lives touch ours without our even taking much notice of it. The words heard on stage are taken from interviews with real people who hold these jobs in real life. The monologues and certain lyrics of the songs are their thoughts and feelings in their own words. The central theme of WORKING is about a search for daily meaning as well as daily bread; for recognition as well as cash, for astonishment rather than indifference - for a spark of life rather than a Monday through Friday sort of dying. The music ranged from a sentimental ballad sung in Spanish to jazz, rock and country-western flavors. Several different styles are represented since it was composed by five different people, the main instigator being Stephen Schwartz. All of the roles are principals (25 roles) and many of those appearing in this musical were in a speaking and/or singing role for the first time.

The cast, each portraying a different job and some playing more than one role included: Adrian Dinneen, Ray Owen, Donna Byron, Jacqueline Webb, Bruce Mathers, Simon Schmidli, Natalie Boog, Franzi Reichlin, Valerie Boog, Dominique Böhler, Patrick Sequeira, Adrian Gaal, Henk Prikken, Nicola Fielder, Ina Seidl, Sheena Socha, Wolfgang Lübbers, Yasmine Meguid, Juliet Breuer, Jonelle Farr, Kate Hönigsberg, George Aase, Dorothee Roth, Richard Nordstrom, Sheila Mullooly and Alex Schwetlick.
